New clothes do not fit well: what can alterations fix?
Ready-to-wear clothes are made for average bodies, not your exact one. Alterations can often make a good purchase feel much better.
Test fit at home, not only in the shop
A quick fitting-room check can miss problems. Sit, walk, bend and wear the garment for a short time before deciding what bothers you.
This helps separate real fit issues from temporary unfamiliarity.
Trousers are often the easiest to improve
Length, waist and leg width are common trouser alterations. The result depends on fabric, construction and how much seam allowance exists.
The goal is a balanced line, not simply making everything tighter.
Fast preliminary quote
What to send so we can estimate the price and timing faster
A short message and a few details are enough:
- 1 Photos or a short video: the whole item and a close-up of the problem area.
- 2 Item type, material (if known) and quantity.
- 3 What happened or what you want changed; the desired result and relevant measurements.
- 4 Your location; fitting or parcel delivery; preferred deadline and urgency.
The preliminary estimate is free. We confirm the final price after inspecting the item.
Dresses and jackets need more judgment
Dress waist, length and straps can often be adjusted, while bust and shoulder changes depend heavily on construction. Jackets are more limited because lining, shoulder pads and front structure interact.
Photos help, but final decisions usually happen when the garment is seen or fitted.
Know the limits before paying for work
Alterations can make a good base garment excellent. They cannot always rescue the wrong size, wrong shoulder or very poor construction. We will tell you when the base item is not worth major work.
Frequently asked questions
How much can trousers be taken in or let out?
It depends on construction and seam allowance. A few centimeters are often possible; large changes are not always sensible.
Can a jacket shoulder be altered?
Only in limited cases. Other areas are often better candidates for improvement.
